Border Cafe

Description

Border Cafe serves the best margaritas in town. Maybe that is why patrons do not seem to mind the wait that is often well over an hour on weekends. There is an enthusiastic atmosphere at the restaurant, since many of the diners are college students and exuberant tourists. Favorites include zesty, fizzling Fajitas and Popcorn Shrimp. This is a good choice for a large party.

I love this place. Good food, good drinks, great potions and the aptmosphere is great.

I'm from Texas so I know Tex-Mex food and my family and I love it! It's one of our favorites! It has a great atmosphere and you feel welcome the minute you get there!

Bah-da Cafe in Bah-stan - Superb
By ,
While vacationing in Boston, we had a hankerin' for good Mexican food and were told to go to Bah-da's (Borders). We went in the late afternoon and shared the restaurant with only a few other tables. I ordered the Chicken Guadalarja at the recommendation of our server, who was the sweetest girl! The chicken was outstanding and the salsa was one of the best I've ever had. Now that I am home, I don't know how I will live without a Borders close by! Very reasonable prices.

Reality Check
By ,
I like the food at Borders, but I will never go back to the Harvard Square location. Diners beware. If you're just running in for a drink at the bar, then fine, but if you eat in the basement level don't be surprised if you see roaches. This place is loaded with them. My husband and I walked out as soon as our food was served. They were crawling on our table, on my purse, etc. I would go to their Route 1 location or Burlington.

Favorite place

Border cafe is one of our favorite places. The margaritas are absolutely delicious, and the food is always perfect. Service is great, staff is friendly, and the prices are too good to be true. Worth the wait! Try the cadillac fajitas, gulf coast enchiladas, and the chicken burro....

Inexpensive but unexceptional
By ,
The Border Cafe has been around for a while now, and there are, in fact, now seven Border Cafe's in the franchise, which makes the experience a bit less intimate than it once was. It offers decent, filling food at a fair price. The kitchen is open later than many other local establishments. In my experience, their margaritas are overly sweet and somewhat watery, but there is nothing wrong with their beer. Better Mexican food can be found at many other locations around Cambridge, but if you're hungry, in Harvard Square, and there's not a line around the block, the Border is a perfectly reasonable option.

I hoped nobody knew

Our favorite restaurant...bar none! Been going there for 19 years. Great atmosphere, great appetizers, my wife loves the blackened swordfish, I love the chicken Guadalajara. We drive 60 miles 5 or 6 times a year. Well worth it!!!

Are you kidding?

This may pass as Mexican food to diners who've never been west of, say, Buffalo, but it's about as authentically ethnic as Applebee's. If you want real Mexican food, try Taqueria Mexicana in Union Square, Somerville.
