They are good, but for the best burgers... go to Tim's. Its on the corner of Dartmouth and Tremont, around the corner from Cleary's. Its a bit of a dive, but the burgers are delicious, enourmous and cheap.
I've never even been to this place, but it's pretty good. If anyone posting on this site goes vegan, I will eat 3 animals. One to compensate for your lost consumption of meat, one for my consumption, and another animal just to spite you.
I have been a Bartley's fan for nearly 40 years. If you want a fine burger, homemade fries or rings, this is the place to go. There are many items on the menu but I never stray from the simple cheeseburger with fries/rings. If you like onion rings, you can't do better than Mr. Barltey's.
These days it is usually crowded and often the line snakes down the block. On the other hand you can order in line and then go next door to the Harvard Book Store, one of the best book stores I've ever been in, and browse while the line moves.
The frappes at Mr. Bartleu's are by themselves, worth the trip although having a frappe, a burger and fries/rings will pretty much take care of eating needs for the day.
The burgers are unbeatable or at least I've never had a better one elsewhere.
This is not elegant dining but the experience and the food are memorable. The atmosphere in convivial as diners are pressed together , usually at long tables. You are more-or-less forced to interact with your neighbors. Kind of like being in the bleachers at Fenway.
Mr Bartley's is always a trip back in time. It never changes, it always delivers.
From all over the net, including here at Yahoo. So I went to try it out, me and my girlfriend were heading to a Red Sox game so we went early and took the Red Line T to Harvard Square first. When you get off, head toward the bend in the road and up Mass Ave with Harvard on your left, you can't miss it, it will be on your right as you start to curve, little red sign.
Got there, luckily, we timed it perfect, around 4:30ish so it wouldn't be too busy. It was a Saturday too, so the area wasn't swamped with people. Walked right in and were given a seat at a long table. The waitress was in a total rush it seemed and it wasn't even that busy, but we ordered our drinks, my gf had a diet coke and I had to try the Rasberry Lime Rickey, cause I heard about it so much. Well, it was about a 20 ounce glass of half ice and half raspberry-limey tasting soda for $3 and no refills, not really that big a deal, tasted like... well, raspberry lime soda. Not nearly as good as the Rasberry Truffle soda I used to get in North Carolina, but whatever.
On to the burger! My gf is on a diet, so she just had a grilled chicken sandwich... was kinda dry and the bacon tasted wierd, but this is a BURGER joint, right? So on with my selection...
There were like 100 burgers on the menu and wall... NOT kidding. A lot of them had funky political names and a lot were just named on the wall as to what they were. To diverse for a second, I kept hearing how good their onion rings were too, but then I got a look at them, they look like onion straw style, so I passed. I ONLY like them big and BREADED, they were battered, so... just a personal preference, but if you like them straw-like, they are probably right up your alley.
So I figured I'd go all out and I got this burger, I forgot the name, second to last on the menu, it was covered in beans and salsa with a sharp jack cheese and a lil sour cream, obviously some kind of mexi-burger. It was actually really yummy, and I used the beans and salsa that fell off the side to dip my fries in. Was it worth the $10, yeah sure, I ain't a cheapskate. $3 for a soda 1/2 ice and ok tasting? ehh... but whatever.
I'll probably visit again and try a more down to earth burger and one of those Godzilla shakes next time. If you are a burger lover, check it out, I have never seen that many burgers on a menu.
Was visiting Boston last summer and we went there to get a burger....OMG! It was the best...SO good that we decided to go back a couple days later (but it was closed b/c it was a Sunday). I still crave a burger from there and it has been months and many burgers later! Definately going back next summer!
Two fast working chefs man a round griddle in the middle of this fun restaurant. You select a mixture of
vegetables, meat, fish, tofu and sauce, and the chefs grill it for you on the spot. If you do ...
