Metropolis Cafe, Boston

I have been to the cafe several times and have enjoyed the meals, but last night 4 of could not find a well prepared dish! The hanger steak was supposed to be medium and arrived in little charcoal pieces. The special pasta with meatballs was our most expensive dish at over $23 with three small dried out marbel like meat balls in a sauce that must have been boiling for the whole day. Another pasta and sausage dish had a similar sauce. We opted to leave for somewhere else for dessert. The waiter came to ask how everything was but ran off before we could answer.

My boyfriend and I had dinner there for New Years..and I tell you I was extremely impressed. We both live out of the state and the staff was very helpful with me when I was trying to book our New Years' dinner. I had Chicken and my boyfriend had a Tilapia dish. Both meals had vegetable medleys that married well with the meat. The Service was impeccable. The food was not only delicious but was displayed beauifully on the fine dishes. Great wine selection as well! The restaurant is fairly small. But that is what gives it its' charm. What a great value. What a wonderful treasure. The ambiance is very romantic. This resturant is a must when traveling to Boston.

Any night at Metropolis is a good night for a date with someone you like a lot and want to get closer to -- literally and figuratively, because the space is tiny. Best tables are in the two front corners near the windows. The wine list is well populated and interesting; the food is always comforting and the specials intriguing enough so that the menu never gets boring. Because the space is small and the light inside so soft and warm, the ambiance fairly bursts from the windows; the decor is tastefully understated, and the noise level is comfortable so you can actually talk to your date in a normal speaking voice. I love this restaurant. Oh - and the brunch? Brunch is great.
