Abe & Louie's
Settle into a deep booth in the mahogany-paneled dining room and get ready for a melt-in-your-mouth culinary experience at this old-fashioned steakhouse called Abe & Louie's. Filet mignon and porterhouse steak are standard fare. The kitchen offers a selection of cheese and sauces that may be included with your steak. Lighter entrees include a selection of poultry and fish dishes. Pick your own side dishes from a list including onion rings, asparagus and creamed spinach while you enjoy a drink from the full service bar. Seasonal outdoor seating and private dining rooms are available.
Food is not steak-house caliber, staff is rude, somewhat of a local, laid-back atmosphere, less formal than some. Even Capital Grille, a chain, rocks this place in terms of quality of food and service.
With all the raves we had heard about this restaurant, we eagerly looked forward to a relaxing, romantic dinner with great food. We were very disappointed. Nothing disasterous happened, but the steak was nowhere near the quality it should have been. We knew the prices would be high-end, but we expected to get what we paid for. We didn't. The decor and atmosphere is still as great as it was when it was, previously, J.C. Hillary's and Baraschi's long before that. It is a spot we have known well over the years, but the latest resident left us vowing not to return -- there are just too many other places that have far better food for the money.
I was so excited about going there for a Private Brunch. The room downstairs was so small and cramped. No room to move around and no decor. It was a typical basement room.
I don't know what was spent for the food, but whatever it was, it was WAY to much.. We had french toast. A specialty that about a quarter of the people had. It was so hard that you couldn't eat it. Our waiter said that the chef overcooked it. So why did he let it go out to the customers? If you ate it, most likely you would have a hard time swallowing it. It was left on all plates at time of clean-up.
I would think twice before having a bruch downstairs here.
I have to say that the service was so slow. Very inexperienced.
My wife and I had lunch here this past Sunday 8/21/06, we have been told that it was the best steak house in Boston, after my wife ordered her Filet and we had 2 sides 1 of creamed spinach and 1 of potatoes, my wife had taken a bite of the creamed spinach and found a long dark hair, wrapped in the spinach side, I asked the waiter Bill to remove the side dish and told him what was found, he barely apoligized and when the filet was served my wife couldn't even enjoy her $28.oo steak, further more Bill offered a free desert, woppie shit, the meal should had been removed from the bill and I expected the manager to stop by the table and address the matter, nver happened.
I was very disgusted with the whole meal etc, I have told many friends about the story and will continue to tell more.
