A wonderfull meal. Expensive but well done - nice location attentive staff - managers helped with wine selection and even offered to take back the bottle if we did not like the choice - wow! Food was well done - white bean soup superb and sole done perfectly. Potatoes not so perfect but no complaints. We will be back for special occasions!

Great Place, Food, Price and Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/26/07
Toscano recenty reopened and we decided to give it a try--Christmas Eve. We assumed it would not be busy as Beacon Hill is generally slow on that night. We showed up and the place was packed. But the host told us two tables would be leaving soon and we could have a choice. We ordered two appetizers--zucchini stuffed with veal and then grilled vegetables--both terrfic. We split a gnocchi pasta to die for and a veal chop with spinach. Both great.Large selection of wine and we had a bottle of 2002 Chianti. Just right. No dessert. Too full.Double espressos and into the night. Wish they were open for Christmas.

Disappointing and still hungry
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/18/07
After living in the hill for many years my friends I decided that we would try out the newly remodeled Toscano for a Friday night dinner. I do have to say that even living within steps of the restaurant for years none of us had ever stepped foot inside given the previous ambience and décor - dead. However, with a new summer remodel the place seemed to be quite popular, and peeping in the windows set our hopes high. We did however notice the menu went unchanged (should’ve been a red flag). The remodel is beautiful - well done. Four of us got a nice table and ordered the nights antipasti which was pretty good and the bread was tasty. But this is where it ends...the waitresswas terrible. She recommended the most expensive bottle she could find once we directed her towards the type of wine we wanted. I expect a fine dining experience to offer a waiter that can recommend wines based on your order and not necessarily the $90 bottle. Oh, she barely new the specials which did sound interesting and should have been played up. Two people order Osu Bucco which was interestingly made with Veal rather then Lamb...it was well prepared but not Osu Bucco. And the risotto: disgusting, tasteless and should have been left off the plate. Osu Bucco should leave everyone at the table mopping up the sauce with left over bread. Not the case. PASTA: AWFUL. The rest of us ate 3-4 bites and left a $20 bowl of pasta on table. Their house specialty was double smoked bacon sauce that tasted like a camp fire. Bacon? Hello what ever happened to Pancetta or guanciale. Then Dessert. We hoped it would end on an ok note since the antipasti was good - restaurant desserts are restaurant desserts. The espresso was good! One person did ask for a dessert wine recommendation which was a complete bust. She didn't know one type of dessert wine on the menu let alone one that would pair nicely with our order. In the end we took bets on how much the glass of sparkling wine would cost she ended up bringing. Surprisingly - only $9. Bets were up around $22-35 given her previous recommendations. OVERALL: Toscano had the perfect opportunity to redeem itself in Beacon Hill and failed miserably. To Artu we go. At least it is traditional and you don't leave angry and starving. Bad combo if you ask me.

New Look. Great eats.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/2/07
Toscano just reopened after some serious renovation, and it has been beautifully and tastefully redone. The place feels warm and inviting, and the new Toscano is a great addition to Charles Street and the city's restaurant scene. Some things haven't changed, though; the food is still superb. Lots of old favorites are still on the menu, but the new owners have added more wines to the wine cellar and additional items to the food menu. They've kept the best of the old, and added a lot of fabulous new stuff. The service is outstanding and they've kept the prices reasonable.

New Owners
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/14/07
This is the best restaurant out of the north end of Boston. They have new owner who is conservately redoing the restuarnat. We have been going here to many years. Rick, the geneal manager, is wonderful and very attentive. We are looking foreward to the reopening in the fall of 2007. Excellent!!!!!

Best Italian In the Boston
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/31/07
I always have a wonderful time at this classic Tuscan restaurant. The food is consistently fabulous! The menu is full of traditionally prepared delicious sounding dishes and accompanied by seasonal specials which make it impossible to choose from. Bring friends you can share and try as much as possible. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and yet maintains a classic elegance which makes Toscano a great place for anyone who enjoys food, wine and friends. Whether you're in need a quiet table for a business meeting or romantic date or looking for a fun place for a group get together this is a place where in the Italian tradition it all comes together. Valet parking is a plus for space crunched Beacon Hill but the foot traffic from the neighborhood keeps the place packed so reservations are a good idea. Save room for the home made Tiramisu,it's the best I've ever had.

Good food. Bad service.
By John H, 5/14/07
First, the food is obviously fresh and the place is clean. This is a solid Tuscan style restaurant. This is not the place to get a creative meal or fantastic presentation. The problem lies in the service. Despite having reservations, we were largely ignored by the staff. The wine recommended by the waiter was obviously a successful attempt to direct us to an overpriced bottle of ordinary wine. As soon as we finished, the service suddenly was very fast as the maitre 'd hovered around our table staring at us, trying to pick up the money as soon as possible. I don't like to feel like a vagrant when I've waited 40 minutes for my food and just received the check.
