Terramia Ristorante

Description

A true gem among all those rhinestones in the North End, this rustic but cozy trattoria with stucco walls and beamed ceilings specializes in creative interpretations of Italian classics. Behind Terramia's pane-windowed storefront on Salem Street is a busy 39-seat trattoria decked out in linens, candlelight and paintings of the Italian countryside. Like the cuisine here, the atmosphere is elegant yet understated. Since opening in 1993, Terramia has aimed to convince North End diners that there was always more to Italian food than red sauce. Over the Years, the inventive and beloved restaurant has done a great deal of convincing. You'll find creative interpretations of seasonally-based classics here. But come early because you won't be alone. The ever-changing menu incorporates seasonal vegetables and the catch of the day. Homemade pasta dishes feature unconventional preparation styles--ravioli is served open-faced, with scallops, shrimp and zucchini, in a lobster mascarpone sauce.

A diamond among the gems of the North End! Impressive menu & food to back it up. Friendly, efficient wait staff. Lobster fritters, homemade sausage & polenta appetizer, risotto, linguini & clams - all perfect - can't wait to go back and try different dishes! No problem that they don't serve coffee & dessert - they recommended a pastry shop nearby - tasty and fun. Too bad we live so far away - Terramia could easily become our favorite restaurant!

Consistently the best food in the North End. One pasta is better than the other. The lobster "ravioli" is like nothing you've ever had. It's between sheets of pasta. The rest of the pastas are without compare. Appetizers are creative and tasty. We bring our foodie friends from across the world, and they all agree it's a top culinary experience!

02/18/2009 Small but fabulous! Only 12 tables in this small charming Italian restaurant so don't plan on a catering hall type dining experience. The night my wife and I went there was only 5 tables occupied, including ours. The service was friendly, attentive and personable. The food was superb!! It's a little pricey but worth it in our opinion. No desert menu is offered but we received a cordial glass of limoncello with our check which finished the meal off perfectly. (Wine - appetizer - dinner - tax and tip for two, $110.00)

Food consistently good, decor great, but always rather cramped. Service very friendly, but reservation process somewhat haphazard - we always seem to wait 15-20 minutes, despite being on time.

Wonderfully authentic Northern Italian cuisine. Wine listing left us wanting.

Wonderful Italian cuisine. All the ingredients are fresh and you get the feeling the chef is cooking for you personally. A small, friendly place that can seem a little crowded, but the food is worth it.

Tucked away in the North End, a true find. Good food, tight spaces, limited menu.
