The Hungry I | French Restaurant, Boston

Bad food, non-kid friendly, condescending waiter/owner, way overpriced starters and entrées..all in all a non-pleasant experience, for sure we will never go back..but Boston is so lovely...must visit again

My fault My wife and i ate at the Hungry I this past saturday. the restaurant is cozy. we ate upstairs, although i would have prefered downstairs. i had the pear salad which was underwhelming. my wife had the fig salad which was very good. i had the venision. it was excellant. my wife had the lobster newburg crepe appetizer for her main course. it was also excellant. we split the walnut pie which was very good. overall the evening was a delight until the bill came. my wife has a small appetite so she clearly stated that she wanted the appetizer as her main course. the appetizer was $17. the restaurant charged us $38. It should have been explained up front that you can't order an appetizer as a main course without an exhorbitant surcharge. as it was, my wife couldn't finish her meal. We let it pass rather than argue about it, but the next day i was feeling kinda cheated. it was my fault for not bringing it up at the time, but it was enough to put us off from going back to the restaurant. had we been told up front, we still wouldn't go back. i think if you want to order 2 appetizers as your meal, then you should be allowed to do so.

-Service was poor on many levels. Rude? -Food was good but nowhere near the quality expected for the price. Overpriced and pretentious For half the cost there are nicer places for a fine dining experience in Boston Bottom line: Don't bother, we certainly won't again.

Warm, intimate ambience, relatively empty on a cold Wednesday night. The food is hearty and well-cooked--in our case venison, rabbit, and steak--but not inspired. The prices are a little steep.

If you enjoy an imtimate and cozy dining experience - you'll love the restaraunt. i always love passing the fresh produce in baskets as i enter this homey - french restaraunt in wonderful Beacon Hill. Everything on the menu is always delicious and i love to peek on the bar at the desserts that have just come from the oven!

From the moment you walk thru the door, you are transported into a cozy, romantic, unique hideaway. The service is smart, friendly, and discreet, followed by food which is delectable. The owner is graciously present and always engaging; a true experience to treasure! Destined to be a favorite spot once experienced....

We went on Valentine's Day, so there was only a limited menu, and it was still one of our best dining experiences. The food was excellent; the wait staff was attentive without being intrusive (difficult considering that the restaurant appeared to be fully booked.) And, then there is the ambiance. I have recommended this place highly to everyone.

With the only outdoor courtyard in Beacon Hill, Hungry I really is something special, particularly in nice weather. I ate there on a balmy summer evening, and although the prices were high, it felt worth every penny. Our entrees were great, but I've had better; it may be a matter of personal taste, though. The food was very well-cooked, but the flavors were not necessarily distinctive or memorable. However, the service was flawless, and the desserts were out of this world. I would also say that the outdoor courtyard ranks among the most romantic dinner spots in the city.
