Jalapenos Mexican Restaurant
Worcester's only authentic Mexican restaurant. established in 1992 we take pride in serving only genuine Mexican recipes brought here by our staff from Mexican city, central and southern Mexico. all of our dishes are meticulously prepared using only the freshest possible ingredients.
This place is as close as you are going to get to being in Mexico. The chips and salsa are the best I have ever had. The food is all hand prepared and the drinks knock you out. Casual and clean. Loved it and will be returning often.
I went to Jalapenos last night for the first time in years. They have expanded, finally, and the space is now very big and spacious, and you can actually move around, which was nice. But our service was awful, taking almost 40 minutes after we were seated to get our drinks, and then the waitress walked away without bothering to ask if we were ready to order. When the drinks finally came the house margarita was hands down the WORST margarita I've ever tasted. So much sour mix I couldn't finish it (whereas my dining buddy's was so tequila filled you couldn't taste the sour mix). My Chile Rellenos were bland bland bland and very expensive for what I got. The only enjoyable part of my meal was the beans, which appears to be refried black beans, VERY good. But frankly the beans alone couldn't save this lackluster meal or horrible dining experience. My advice: if you want Mexican food make the trip up the line to Beverly or Salem as any of even the so/so places there blow Jalapenos out of the water, no problem.
If you are looking for premium tequila and/or interesting Mexican style dishes, they are fantastic. If you want a traditional carne asada burrito or carnitas tacos, you will be disapointed. This is a restaurant with an adult palate in mind. The Haddock Veracruz made my ten best list for fish: very Gloucester with ocean fresh fish, but Latin with tomatoes and green olives.
Always great food drinks and service! Anything with steak is great, the carnitas tacos are top notch, the chicken chimichanga is fantastic ... i'm gonna stop right there and just say that anything you get will make you glad you ate here. And another plus is that in the bar they will always have the Sox game on!
You might be surprised to find delicious, authentic Mexican food in a seafood town, But Jalapeno's fills the bill nicely. Popular with the locals, as evidenced by the ever present line outside and the wait for tables. Reservations are a must. The Tamale's are the best self and companion have had on the east coast. Service is always friendly, and the atmosphere is cantina like and very casual. The food is the star here. I highly recommend Jalapeno's.
