Longfellow's Wayside Inn
Longfellow's Wayside Inn has accumulated centuries of history since it opened in 1716. After Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's (1807-1882) book of poems Tales of the Wayside Inn was published in 1863, the establishment became a famous literary retreat. It now houses historic archives as well as dining, lodging and a gift shop. The restaurant offers a delightful fare of American cuisine. Staying at this Inn enables you to get the feel of the charming medieval age that serves as a pleasant deviation from the fast paced "city-culture." But do not be deceived, this place is no less when it comes to providing modern amenities to its guests. Where, customer satisfaction holds the highest value, Longfellow's Wayside Inn is certainly an obvious choice for comfort stay.
The building and grounds are very nice and very quaint. The dinner staff is also good. The food on the other hand is so so. I have eaten there 2 or 3 times in 15 years and I there is a reason why it is about 5 years between visits.
Wow - this place teams with history. Very nice, very cozy, very New England. Staff was pleasant and helpful. This is an old building, so don’t expect wi-fi or any modern touches, but a very charming inn. The room we stayed in was in the old section, and had these funky and steep stairs with a rope railing to get up to. Kinda added to the charm of the place. Bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Food and service in the restaurant were excellent, and the grounds and buildings were splendid.
The Wayside Inn is one of the best places to stay. There is so much history to it. Being one of the oldest inns around there is so much that you can learn. The only thing is, there is no TV and no radio in the rooms. But because of that, past guest have came up with something to keep you busy, in what is called the SDS. That is all I going to say because I did't know what it was until I found it by luck. You will just have to found the clues that are all around the rooms. Room 9 and 10 are the best!!! And maybe you'll be a lucky one who sees the ghost!
Everything was great. The food is fantasic in the restaurant. Rooms are clean, quiet and very well maintained.
I would recommend to families and business travelers as one of the best places in the US or internationally to stay. A super experience for those who need to unwind and take in the New England experience.
