Portillo is South America's oldest and most famous ski resort. The famous skier Jean-Claude Killy won his first gold medals in Portillo in the 1966 World Championships. Located on the edge of Inca Lake in a truly gorgeous setting, Portillo is 100 percent above tree line. Portillo is revered by advanced/expert skiers for its steep, off-piste terrain and good hiking, and powder that can last for days. With just one hotel and no town, the ambiance lends itself to a lot of camaraderie, and the focus is as much on skiing and snowboarding as life off the slopes. ActivitiesSnowboarding: Snowboarding is allowed on the mountain. Equipment rental and lessons are available. LodgingThe Hotel Portillo has choices of valley or lake views, rooms for singles or doubles, singles in suites, and family apartments. Two hotel annexes provide a less expensive alternative to the traditional hotel room. Ski and stay packages are available on a weekly basis.
