Terry Peak is set on 400 acres in the beautiful northern Black Hills of South Dakota. It sits at 7,100 feet in elevation and has a vertical drop of 1,100 feet, making it the biggest ski area in the heartland. Five chairlifts, including two high-speed quads, serve the facility with 20 miles of trails for all ability levels. An average annual snowfall of 150 inches, plus top-notch snowmaking over 60 percent of the mountain, insure great surface conditions throughout the season. The Holy Terror Half-Pipe, KSNO Radio(Terry Peak's own radion station), and a beginner chairlift for lessons only, are additional ammenities to this full-service area. Terry Peak is just minutes from the historic towns of Lead and Deadwood, the old stomping grounds of Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane. It's as close to "real Western" mountain skiing as you'll find in the Midwest. ActivitiesSnowboarding: Snowboarding is allowed on all runs. There's a terrain park and halfpipe.LodgingNearby historic towns of Lead and Deadwood offer a variety of lodging including B&Bs, private rentals, and hotels.
What a nice mid-western ski area. Nice new lifts. Lots of friendly employees and people in general. Close to Deadwood SD. Also had local color with a couple of skiing legends named Darin and Ed. Look forward to going back to my favorite SD area.
I just made my first, but not last visit to Terry Peak. Being a Midwesterner, it exceeded my expectations in terms of run variety and quality. Its runs are four times taller than most Midwest ski areas, has a great terrain park, and NO lift lines. Perfect for families! Upper lodge has great viewing site for the beginner run/lift. Negative. One chair for expert runs not open most week days.
All the bells and whistles you would exspect to find @ a large Colorado facility but @ a considerable savings. Granted the runs may be a little shorter, and the vertical not quite as steep, but there is plenty of challenging terrain for all levels of skiers and boarders. Affordably priced
lift tickets & lodging close by.
For the snow they get, they do a great job of grooming - I've skiied all over the US, Canada & Europe and now live nearby- For a small area, they have TWO high-speed Quads- Never any liftline waits over 3-4 minutes-
The snowboard terrain park keeps "them" contained and away from me- :)
