Lose the blues on the backside
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/15/09
If you can REALLY ski or board, head for the back mountain. You won't have to wend your way around a bunch of people sitting in the middle of the runs. It's an extra drive to Kirkwood, but for a capable skier, it's more than worth the effort. There is a separate set of runs for the beginners away from the action and enough blues near the center of the resort to accomodate the intermediates. Be prepared for driving in the snow. Even with a clear sky you may be driving on packed ice on 88 or need chains or 4x4 on 50/89. We've dug out cars that have slid into snowbanks on 88 on several occasions with the shovel we carry.
