The new large bar :( I liked the homey feeling but I know they need money to expand so I guess I really cant be to down on it.
If you need to perfect your tree skiing this is it. Best off trail and out of bounds and well marked to let you know you are going out of bounds. The lifties are by far the nicest in the SW portion of Idaho and it shows as they keep returning and manning the same lift every year. When Brundage does groom, which is not really needed unless you are a beginner or fair weather skier, they know how to groom and seal the ruts, unlike many resorts I have been too. Overall my favorite resort in SW Idaho. This is one resort I almost always ski from open to close and maybe have to wait a total of 3 minutes when in a lift line. Great postive attitude at Brundage which Tamarack down the road needs to learn. I left Brundage once to explore the more exciting resorts but my heart is back here where the snow is good, people are honest and postive attitudes are encouraged.
Brundage has the best snow in central Idaho! They pride themselves on skiing powder, so when it snows, only a few runs are groomed. On weekdays, only the Bluebird chair takes you to the top. If you ski the southern runs, you have to take the SLOW Bear chair to get back to Bluebird. The resort basically has five long runs with good verticle drop. The other runs are short. The Lakeview runs are intermediate at best and are not steep except for the last drop to the chair. The lodge is old and small and can not handle weekend crouds. Customer service is good at best. The snow is why people return. They need to build the new lodge they have been talking about for years. There is no publc transportation to the resort. It is a 3 hour drive from the Boise Airport. There is no lodging at the resort, but there is plenty in McCall except for holiday weekends, so plan accordingly.
New management closed one of 2 main lifts Mon thru Thurs. Now have lines at other. A main run is often closed for racers. Place can get crowdwd on that side. Got hit by 2 snowboarders last year. Little or no enforcement of rules. Grooming can be very incomplete--dangerous if foggy,as it often is.Out of state friends no longer ski there(we go to targhee). May not buy another season pass....ever.
