  • We are going back!!!
    By terry k, 08/06/06
This is quite possibly one of the most beautiful and interesting places my family and I have been. The freedom to hike and explore an area so geologically diverse and steeped in cowboy history is just the kind of things we look for when traveling. The folks at the gift shop were a fountain of information and certainly helped to make the trip ...

  • Hometown Local.
    By James B, 03/12/07
I grew up in Canyon Texas. This park was a regular spot for biking and hiking when I was younger. Plenty of areas to explore within 4 miles of the road, but for the real hardcore campers, hike south from the turn-around for 30-45 minutes. Great open camping there, and it is rarely explored. In the last 20 years, I've only run across other campers twice that far south.

  • Nice Surprise
    By chuck s, 10/24/06
We stopped here on our way drving from Missouri to the Grand Canyon. We camped here for two nights and loved it. You get to drive down into the canyon which is absolutely beautiful. You are surrounded by wildlife (turkey) and the views are great. You can hike or bike on many nice trails. Bring plenty of water for the hikes and have fun. ...

  • Grand Canyon of Texas
    By Francisco Ortiz, 05/21/07
Nice place to see and well worth the stop. The outlook post museum is interesting and has a fantastic view. There are wild turkeys and road runners everywhere.

Amarillo is nearby with attractions like Cadillac ranch, Arnolds burgers, Big texan steak ranch & Opry, route 66 historic district, figure 3 ranch, Wonderland park.

    If you want ...

  • Cant wait to do it again
    By Amanda S, 10/24/06
We did the Lighthouse trial which is 6.5 miles round trip and loved every minute of it. But they say the gates close at 10 pm but we found our friends stuck outside because they were already closed before 9:30!

  • Wonderful Memories
    By PAM, 04/06/08
Palo Duro Canyone is a beautiful place to go. If you are into hiking, or just camping, going for the day and having a picnic it is wonderful. So much fun over the years. I lived in Amarillo all my life..

  • One of our favorite Texas spots...
    By bri1832, 05/20/08
Have been to Palo Duro Canyon three times. LOVE IT each and every time. The first time we stayed in the Cow Camp cabins and I have to admit to being pretty creeped out. There were numerous mice and lizards walking around the stone walls of our cabin. I thought I could handle it and was prepared to sleep inside, until we saw a giant black ...

  • Enjoying Palo Duro State Park
    By Little Red Hen, 09/13/07
It is a great place to go, the only bad thing at all is that it has a very steep winding enter/exit road. It is pretty and in the summer the play "Texas" is a wonderful outdoor show to see.

  • The "Baby Grand" Canyon
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 04/18/08
Just returned from Az.'s Grand Canyon, but first took yet another drive through part of
Palo Duro. It is truly the "Baby Grand". It
is one of the best kept secrets in Texas and
so unexpected after all the flat land of W.
Tx. We had a chance to turn some other folks
that we met at a rest area, onto it, too. It
is magnificent! Would love to see the musical spectacular "Texas!" sometime.
