We stumbled on Fort Charlotte (like all our encounters in Nassau!) on a day trip off a cruise ship. There were a few loacls there, one who was very courteous and gave us a pretty in-depth history of the place.
I think we came at it from an odd direction because it was not the best looking part of town, but that's what makes places real so ...

Cruise Trip Summer 2007

If I returned to Nassau--I would NOT get off the cruise ship. This island is a trash dump...The people do not know how to clean up after themselves. They rely on tourist dollors for their income, but they do not know how to capitalize on the cash coming onto the island.

This was a great historic place to visit! I would really recomend it. Great to teach children about Bahamas history. It is great because it is free of cost.

Never Go Back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/20/06
Fort Charlotte was the filthest place I have ever been...Gross, puke, and upchuck is what I experienced when I was there. A group of condoms greeted us at the band stage. Whiskey bottles, beer cans and trash strewed around the fort inside the fort itself, smelled like urine. Reply from the tour guide. "It is Sunday, why should we work on Sunday"...."Gag me with a spoon"......
You can keep Nassau....
