The “owner” seemed irritated when I had to request check-in directions. And it went downhill from there…..

What I liked about the Inn At Kulaniapia was leaving. It was horrobly inconvenient as you had to pass thru the worst area of Hilo, before making the long..long..long journey up a non-lighted, winding driveway (3-4 miles) which had the feeling of an abondoned driveway to Norman Bates Hotel, with speed bumps!
My husband and I stayed here a night on our 2002 trip for our 25th anniversary and were lucky enough to be there in sunny weather. Lovely spot right on top of a private waterfall- with great walking and hiking areas. Views of Hilo Harbor in the distance. Friendly Aloha service and idealic setting. Totally off the beaten track and very quiet, serene and beautiful. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat! MR

I'd agree with a little of both of the previous reviews.
It was strange that no one was there to check us in or show us around. It felt a little awkward going straight to our room. But we had stuff to do so I didn't mind saving the time.
The place is a scenic drive outside of Hilo, amidst macadamia nut farms. Don't try to find it ...

Location beautiful!
No one meets you upon arrival, or seems to care. Ants in bathroom. Breakfast: Poundcake from Sara Lee? Bagels from Safeway, plastic bagged? Eggs good. Other guests friendlier than owners. We would not recomend this B&B to friends.

This is a great B&B
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/02/05
This B&B is off the beaten path so beware. However, the trip is well worth it. A beautiful house located about 800 feet above Hilo what a wonderful view. The rooms are small but clean. The room we have stayed in (twice) has a view of a large waterfall.
The host is engaging, breakfast is very good. Hilo is a great old Hawaiian town. If your going to stay in Hilo and like a little adventure, try this b&b.
