It was a very nice hostel, in a weird area, but once inside, was secure, friendly, and clean. The bathroom and shower was in separate areas so made it easier. Yes, the light rail was right behind the hostel, but later at night, we never heard it. We didn't use the kitchen, but it looked clean and inviting. I would definitely go back. We had a car and parking was fine, but you were very close to going downtown anyway.
Melbourne was very secure. No recorded theft or incidents. You get a key to the building and one to our room or shared room. The shower was clean and so were the rooms. The location is perfect, just a few blocks to the heart of downtown where you can easily access the museums, public library, and 16th St. Mall. Also the light rail has stops very nearby. The staff was friendly and accomodating.

It is also on the same location as a Mexican bus company, so early in the morning buses drop off loads of people and leave the buses ideling. The exhaust came right ...
