    I attended Mass in early December of 2007 in St. Alphonsus Church. What a beautiful Church! The architecture is superb and the altar is, thankfully, intact with the Blessed Sacrament given the central place of honor in the tabernacle above the altar.     This church was started in 1842 and completed in 1845, and was designed by the eminent architect, Robert Cary Long. It is patterned after the Cathedral of St. Stephen in Vienna, and exhibits the Southern German Gothic style. It is 154 feet long, 68 feet wide.
