If you enjoy seeing the non-tourist views when travelling, then this is a good place to stay. Its in a residential neighborhood yet several blocks away (slightly uphill) you find lots of shops and bakeries before the ritzy part of town kicks in. Bring your walking shoes and an energy bar to catch the subway, although several buses are nearby. ...
My Grandson and I just stayed 3 days at the end of July to take in a Yankees game and do some sight seeing(never been there before), the complete staff there was very friendly from bell boys to room maids... Rooms were a little small but nice for two, any more then that get a suite...Pool/steam room/sauna and fitness center were great but closed ...
We thought the hotel was in a very nice neighborhood with nice restaurants around. After staying at Hiltons, Marriot's beds and pillows were VERY uncomfortable. The staff was great and the rooms were basic but clean. Also they has free internet!
The restaurant is horrible with really awful service.

This hotel is expensive, but otherwise, a great place to stay. Clean, nicely furnished room with frig, safe, micro, coffee maker...lots of closet space. Staff was friendly and gave us great referrals to neighborhood businesses. One employee even ran down to the next intersection to flag down a taxi for us! The restuarant that is connected to the hotel had okay food, but the waitstaff was unconsious. Would stay there again.
The hotel was great. Brand new, clean and modern. Staff were very friendly. What I didn't like was the location. Somewhat inconvenient as it's not within walking distance to any NYC attractions. However, just a short drive away. The "projects" were located across the street which I also wasn't crazy about. The security at the hotel was tight and there was always a guard on duty so we felt safe.
