Taipei 101 is excellent. It's not all about the observatory deck and stuff, although that is very fun, the building itself is modern and has feeling. Yes it's expensive but worth it, awesome shopping, awesome food, observatory deck-89th and 91st floor with museum like atmosphere see thegold pillar running in center of the building to keep it steady etc. Elevators very fast ad fun.

I think 101 is overhyped. You get much better view of Taipei City from the top of Elephent mountain and it is free unlike 101.

Taipei 101 is a must see on any tour. I went twice in October '06, and then March '07. Although the price is expensive it is well worth the experience. I went to the viewing area of the Taipei 101 at night. Even then the view was magnificent. The shopping and the food are also very nice. Enjoy!
