I am an American ex-pat living in China. Recently some froends came to visit from home and wanted to see Beijing. I booked rooms at the Bamboo Garden and found that it was a much better deal than I had imagined. Far better priced than most other "luxury" hotels around the city, it provides an incredible local in the old part of the ...

  • BAMBOO GARDEN HOTEL
    By bayou73, 06/15/04
THE HOTEL GROUNDS ARE AMAZING. WITH OLD BAMBOO GARDENS AN FISH PONDS COVERING INSIDE COURTYARDS. IT IS THE PERFECT PLACE TO REST AND ENJOY TEA. THE BEIJING ZOO IS A CAB RIDE AWAY. THERE IS ALSO A GREAT BAR AT THE HOTEL WITH AN ATTENTIVE STAFF. IN THE EVENING TRAVELERS GATHER AND COMPARE ADVENTURES OF THEIR JOURNEY OVER BEER. THE ROOMS ARE ...

  • An Oasis in a Questionable Location
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 11/17/04
The worst thing about this hotel brings out the best thing about this hotel. In a word, "location." It is located an unfortunate distance from the Back Lakes; it is too long to walk there and back, but too close to take a cab. The surrounding area was under heavy construction during my stay in November of 2004. Every cab ride we took ...

  • Staying with the secret policeman
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 04/06/05
This former home of a imperial eunuch and Mao's first chief of the secret police is now a very beautiful and authentic Hutong-style back-alley Chinese hotel. I have stayed in several rooms and will definitiely return to this hotel. The tube station is less than ten minutes walk, and takes you downtown easily. The Drum Tower is a 20 minute walk, ...

  • Pretty Place Will Return Soon
    By sueart99, 12/17/05
I loved the gardens and the bamboo. The price quoted was misleading. They did upgrade my room but at a substantially higher price than quoted. The staff is friendly. Be careful if you can't take stairs to request a ground floor room. Also, they were tearing up the pavement and it was inconvenient. However, they do speak English which is a ...

  • A true Chinese treasure
    By stephen b, 09/14/07
I booked the Bamboo Garden Hotel online after much research. The price seemed good and naturally, since I had never been to Beijing, I knew nothing about the location except that it was in an older part of Beijing.

What a find! After traveling up a dusty Hutong a gate opens to the Bamboo Garden Hotel. An oasis of beauty and calmness. The ...

    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 09/18/06
Very quaint but not in a steriotyped way....
Modern and traditional at the same time
The gardens were very pretty and it was a very quiet stay.
Walking distance from the Drum and Bell towers as well as Tiananmen a little further on.

    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 05/27/06
I loved the place. It was perfect for seeing around the place and excellent and for getting away from the bustle of the city. The staff were excellent - they couldn't do enough to help. I hope to go back there and will recommend it further.
