This is truly the most dire place on God's earth. It has been forsaken by culture, aesthetic sensibility, and any culinary taste whatsoever: it epitomises the worst atrocities of post-war architectural tragedy, and smells. Fast food joints are strewn amongst the closed-down pound shops. It is as close to a dystopian horror as one can imagine.
The name Slough comes from the old english for bog or marshy ground, for those that live there 'a bog' is a very description. It's a concrete jungle and industrial area, but does have some great bars and is situated along the M4 and the Reading - Paddington train route.
