Have visited twice in the last two years. Will be returning in 2007. Enjoyed the harbor. Parts of city were rather dreary. Well worth the trip.

We came in from London on the train, which the ride to Portsmouth was fun-beautiful scenery. The actual town was pretty around the harbor. It was incredibly cold and windy, though. Also there was the usual English cloud cover. Make sure to take a sweatshirt!

We loved just walking around and seeing the ships and shops. We had came in from London so we didn't stay overnight.

I lived in Portsmouth for a year. Speaking from a traveler's perspective, this city is jampacked with people (the highest populated city per square capita, apparently) - most of which is low income housed.
