I have visited Durham regularly since 1999 for work. I love staying there as opposed to other towns for a few reasons. While it is a little noisy late at night on week-ends (it IS a college town), it is small, friendly, and easily walked. I usually take a 5:00am walk, and the delivery people out at that time are friendly enough to say hello ...
ive been to durham about 9 years ago...nice place to visit...its an old town,,stone made streets in the city center...a remarkable castle and tower... beautifull bridg over a small river.. the river goes throgh a jungle like park... i pretty much injoyed it
I love living here, the history and atmosphere are amazing. Plenty of things to do, and the city life just 15 mins away in Newcastle!

Small but nice

I studied in Durham for a few years and visited again recently. It is a very beautiful small Cathedral city with a rich history and a lively atmosphere thanks to the local culture and also the large student population. It's not big, but it would be a great place to spend a weekend as part of a larger trip of Britain's underrated northeast.
