This is a popular tourist destination for Taiwanese also and I highly recommend that you go during the to avoid crowds.
The main attraction is the Taroko Gorge, which you can see by foot or by car. When we were there, we hired a taxi driver guide who we met on the street. He drove us around and directed us where to hike, what sites to visit ...
