Though the city is not that old most of it starting from the 17-18th century any way it is fabulous, safe, and full of every thing any one can imagine

I like the atmosphere, location, food,try kind of food missing back home, hooka,we can sit and enjoy our time beside new freinds,I encourage anyone to visit that restaurant(enigma),and the old part of Damascus.I still remmber every thing and places there.

Enjoyed walking through the souk, Omayed Mosque & Old "jewish" quarter of the city.

I was there in August, it was soooo hot that I fainted in the souk. The shopkeepers came to my resucue, so to speak by dumping a bucket of cold water on me. Felt GREAT!

the airport is not would you expect. The airport staff are unfriendly.
the city is crowded, not clean and almost chaos everywhere.
if you are with your girlfriend, be careful on the street from syrians picking on her or touching her.
the experience was bad all in all
hotel was so, so but room has bad smell and too much noise from the street

People are very friendly, not as portrayed here.
Extra cheap.
Arab night parties are awesome, relly great and enjoyable 'TARAB' nights.
A great feeling to walk in the second oldest city on earth after jericho.

I go to Syria every summer for a couple of months as we have a home there. Although I love to travel to Damascus there are some aspects of previous reviews that I find somewhat misleading. damascus has some nice places, my favourite was the ummayad mosque, sayadnaya church and the souk. The rest is too dirty, no cleanliness, too hot in the summer and some people are very rude. the only reason i go there is because i have cousins that live there and my aunt and uncle, if i did not have them i dont think i woudl go so many times.

I found the City of Damascus was busy and interesting. The architecture diverse. We were there several years ago with a tour group of about 20 people. And we were well cared for by the tour leader who was was very adept, familiar with the Arab culture and fluent in Arabic. She, a professor of sociology, made the trip especially rich.
