Iquitos is a very cheap place to visit and to stay, where a ride in a ‘mototaxi’, a kind of motorized riksja, will cost you about 50 cents; where you can eat an excellent meal for two euros, and where seven euros buys you a modest but clean hostal room. Obviously, the rainforest is by far the most important reason why tourists come to ...
Iquitos city is quiet and humid. People is nice and very vivacious. Everything is cheap and all the food is fresh. You must get outside the city and feel the tranquility of the forest, the water and big trees.
I loved Iquitos! The only negative thing I can say about it is that it was very, very hot. Our hotel had a pool though, so after a long day of tooling around on the Amazon river and visiting Amazon tribal villages, animal reserves and butterfly farms, it was really nice to jump into that pool. Save your shower for just before dinner, because you ...
I spent 2 years in Iquitos enjoy the kindness of its people and the unique amazonian athmosphere. This experience is a must for any world traveler whose life is not spent or wasted on hotels and pompouness. Go ahead! Taste real life, the magick and charm that is Iquitos.

Iquitos "mosquitos city"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/01/06
On the westbank of the Amazonas river, Iquitos is the capital of Peru's jungle land and makes an excellent base for exploring the northern jungle of Peru.
On the Plaza de Armas you'll find Iquitos strange landmark, the iron house, designed by Eiffel for the Paris exhibition of 1889 and shipped here by a rubber baron. The nineteenth ...

Get ready to leave what you knew behind...

Iquitos is a very special place. Accessible only by boat or plane, it is a city of some 500,000 people on the edge of the Amazon rain forest.
When I was flying into Iquitos, I thought, "Hmmm...half a million people, roughly the size of Boston...the airport will be more or less what we have here in my little town of Portland, Maine." ...

Exotic people, exotic land
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/05
The city is the gateway to the Amazon with a Times Sqaure attitude every night. The rainforest was all I ever dreamed and more. The staff at Explorama were some of the best I've encountered. If you go during "low" water, you'll have less bugs but more walking. Not for anyone physically challenged. "High" means more travel by water. GO!!!! anytime, You'll LOVE it.

Jungle Iquitos
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/04/05
This is a great destination. Go straight to the jungle lodges along the amazon. The main town is quite small, dirty, and crowded. I give all aces to Cieba Tops! Take lots of bug spray, antibiotics, and a rain poncho. The wildlife is free and plentiful. Have your camera handy because Tamarins can run by or a McCaw fly over anytime.
