  • How can one describe Maradi?

    If you are traveling across Niger, Maradi is a very pleasant break from miles of barren bush. You can find cold drinks, some friendly faces and a half-way decent meal. My favorites are the Guest House restaurant/hotel and The Club Privée (the Old French Club). While the Guest House is always ready to serve you, the Club Privée is more of an ...

  • A little overwhelming

    Maradi is a very busy, hot and crowded town. Combined with what we'd read about the influence of sharia conservatism on the town from across the Nigerian border, we did not really feel comfortable there and were glad to be moving on towards Zinder, a town which has a much more approachable and friendly feel.
