I was born in Nicaragua. I live in the US since 1978. I was there during the earthquake of 1972. Research about it and you will see how terrible it was. It' sad because I know it's been hard to recuperate after so many natural disasters and such a long war. For those that critize the weather, let me tell you it has to do with global ...

  • I WILL VISIT AGAIN, BUT I'D NEVER LIVE THERE
    By swanson_mr, 03/29/08
First I must say I was in Managua '06 for for three month's, NEVER a problem and a pleasure. I just returned from another three month stint. I've never seen a place change in such a short period of time. It is becoming another Honduras/El Salvador as far as crime. I don't like saying this for many reasons. They are going through a ...

  • Relaxing
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 12/22/07
We travel to Nicaragua every year, and purchased land and a home there. It is safe and the people are just great. They often are poor but content. We usually spend time in Managua, Granada, San Jan del Sur, and along the Pacific coast. It is good to know some Spanish. Masaya has a great crafts and pottery market. The only begging would be in Managua. Get A/C and hot water in your hotel. Plan a trip, you'll be impressed.

  • Not so wonderful but wonderful lessons
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 12/15/07
I am the son of a U.S. diplomat to Managua and find this post to be depressing but have good life-long lessons. I disagree with the cover story and find it offensive to a person who has lived in the Nicaraguan society for 2 years. The Managuans are usually extremely poor or extremely rich. The poverty of this city is due to the 1972 earthquake. The ...

  • Nothing to do in Managua
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 12/15/07
I went to Managua in August on a 5 day business trip and I was surprised that it didn't look like a city at all. I have been to various business trips throughout Central America like Guatemala City, San Jose, and San Salvador and this was my first time in Nicaragua. Managua is more like a village or a jungle because there are so many trees in ...

  • Pleasantly surprised!
    By magda v, 11/06/07
Our first trip to Nicaragua and Managua was an eye opener. Large boulevards and beautiful new shopping malls. We had great food in local reastaurants. We tried to avoid all the MD's, KFC's etc. The traffic was nothing like Panama City or San Jose. We feld perfectly safe. Of course there is still a huge hart-breaking poverty in the country but hopefully with all the growth, the government will not forget them.

  • Not as bad as most would say!
    By A Yahoo! Contributer, 08/01/07
I just read the article on Managua written by Yahoo. Even though most of the information given on the article is accurate, I must say that Managua is not as bad as it has been described. People are generally friendly and courteous. There are a lot of wonderful, beautiful and interesting places to visit and the food is just amazing. If you are ...
