  • Go see Schwedagon!
    By BobT, 05/24/08
Yangon is increasingly starting to resemble other congested, polluted capital cities of Asia, but in most key places it's still very pleasant. The major attraction here is Schwedagon Pagoda, which is one of the world's most amazing sights! Bogyoke Market is worth seeing, though you'll probably have to fight some traffic to get in and out of there.

  • Real time machine, Definitely going back!
    By meme, 05/19/08
My husband and I arrived Yangon the night before Cyclone Nagis hit the city. We were enjoying ourselves and the city was truly amazing. We felt like we were taken 60 years back in time to see what it was like to be in Asia then. The next day cyclone devastated most of the city and the city looked like jungle. huge trees were down. Roads were ...

    Yangon (Rangoon) and Vicinity

    History and general description

Nearly 200 years after Symes complained of prostitutes, pigs and pariahs – as indeed did Orwell in Burmese Days – and almost 50 years later after Chapman eulogised the ‘Shwe Dagon pagoda’, little has changed in Rangoon. As capitals go, it is comparatively ...

  • I can't get enough of the place
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/09/06
There are a number of things to like. The people are terribly friendly and helpful. Though the country is poor, they are remarkably proud and educated. Taxis and buses are amazingly economical. The food -- Burmese, Indian, Chinese -- is very good, as is the tea. Tea shops are a particular treat. For great coffee, go to Aroma or, on Sule ...

  • AMAZING!!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/16/06
I was in Myanmar this past March, & I was a bit reluctant to go because of all the news about the horrible government. Nevertheless, I still went, & I'm glad I did. Myanmar is such a breathtakingly beautiful country. I stayed @ the Traders Hotelin downtown Yangon, & it's in a very great location. Schwedegon Pagoda was the most ...

  • City waiting for Change
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/28/06
I was born there and people havn't changed. People are hoping to change the country one day and they still believe in it. People really work hard to survive each day.

The infrastracture is going backward instead of developing. No electricity in the city surburbs, a house would only get 8 hours a day on a lucky day.

There are many beaches and value for money to travel. Great asia food for money in a good hotel.

  • You may try it out!
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/17/06
I personally like all the natural gifts granted to Myanmar. Nice views, lots of places of interest. Beautiful peoples' hearts and faces.
In reverse, of course the urgly rullers distroy all the beauties of nature. No proper law. Money talks. Be mindful if you are going there, unseen green ghosts may suddenly appear to rob you. Don't argue pls?
Anyhow, good and bad are always pairing. You may just try.
