Morocco rocks!I was in Marakesh in Feb 05 to March 05 and it was a like a sensory overload type experience.
I stayed at the Hotel Ichbilia that is right near the square on one of Djemmas main arteries.
This is the best area to stay in or you can find a nice and cheap hotel right in the square itself. I used the Lonely Planet guide as a reference.

When can I go back?!!The City of Marakech is wonderful, but if you are interested in getting to see the local life it is best to travel outside the city. The Ourika Valley is spectacular and the people are amazing. Better learn some French before going (not much English spoken). The mountain villages are like nothing you have ever seen. Overnight by camels in desertOur camel excursion was very memorable:Omar who was our guide, was fantastic and had a great sense of humour - he may deal with tour groups every day but he certainly made us feel special.Their website,whitecamel.com.

its a dream but please becarefulThe city is wonderful, the athmosphere couldnt be better. A new world, with beautiful music, food and culture.
I had to stay at the Sheraton, HORRIBLE SERVICE. taxi drivers did not speak english or spanish. Only arab and if you are lucky they will speak french. I dont speak french only spanish and english, it was literally a nightmare.

I`m definitely going back!I went to Marrakech last week, I stayed in the Sangho Privilege hotel which is about 12 kilometers outside the centre.
It is a great hotel, a lot of animation, there is always something to do.
The people are very friendly, the food is delicious and there is so much to do and see.

the Cooolest place!!Marrakech is the coolest place and I've been to a lot of places. Like all places in the middle east, it's smart to be subtle and not call attention to yourself as an American. 1. Djema Elfna the square around the souk-go at night and try all the food stalls. #14 is the only stall run by a woman and Routard rated.
