Last yr my husband and I went to Merida for a once in a lifetime trip - NOT!!! We fell in love with Merida and the wonderful people who live there. We stayed at the El Conquitator Hotel for 11 days; can't say enough good things about this hotel. Employees are warm and helpful. We don't speak Spanish and thought we would have some ...
Merida and the surrounding area are quickly becoming my favorite Mexican escape. The city is a just stunning. Many buildings date back to the early 1500's. The city center features a nice open park that often hosts Fiestas with live music and dance. Horse drawn carriage rides are readily available. I have no idea the cost, not my ...
I was planning on visiting Merida for a week, and stayed for a whole month. If you want a taste of the real Mexico,go to Merida.

Wonderful City
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/27/06
I spent a week in Merida with my wife and two children. We loved it. We stayed at the Hyatt and Fiesta Americana for two days each and then rented a private beach house in San benito for the rest of the trip.
This area of Mexico offers a bit of everything - great beaches, food, culture, friendly people, and reasonable prices.
We went down to Merida with a group from Chicago and had a great time. The city is friendly, being livelier in the morning and after sunset. The city is clean, safe, and charming, with a number of good restaurants. The archeological museum is a great place to stop to get an introduction to Mayan archeology before heading off to ruins.
