The foundation of Valletta was laid on 28 March 1566, with the walls divided in 8 sections, one for every language of the Order of St John. These amazing fortifications were built over 5 years using 8000 workers daily. Approaching them from the sea is a good way of appreciating their beauty so take a harbour cruise - it's worth the price of the ...
Malta - ever heard of it? A small island off the coast of Italy. They drive on the other side of the road here. We rented a car. I thought everyday I would die here. I did not feel safe as a passenger and my husband had a headache everytime we had to take the car somewhere. I think he thought he would get in a fatal accident too. Despite our ...

Loved it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/08/05
I loved all of Malta, but particularly Valletta -- the awesome Co-Cathedral, the way history pervades the town, the kindness of the people we met, the food, the whole thing. Places not to miss: the St. John's Cathedral (take the time to watch some of the restoration work, if possible), all the other churches, the views from Upper Baraka ...

Little known Mediterranean Gem
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/23/05

The majority speak English as their first language but this country still shows it history of occupation from the Moors to the English.

Never Enough
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/02/05
The sun and the Mediterrenean sea should only be considered as a bonus for visiting the islands of Malta. The true reward for the savvy traveller is the huge amount of historical places and history spanning over 7,000 years (some archeologists are pushing this even nearer to 10,000 years). These islands boast of having the oldest stand buildings ...
If you are looking to get away in a remote island in the medditeranean, then look no further. Malta was a place like no other that I have ever been to. Of my lengthy world travels, Malta has been by far the best kept secret. I am honestly disapointed to see it advertised online and I hope that it does not become overrun by westerners. If you ...

A piece of living history
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/09/05
This is the place to get lost in - even though it's a grid system like that of NY. We came across hidden gems while wondering about. The mere fact that we were walking in the city built back in the 1500s by the Knights of St John was a thrill in itself. The place needs a bit of TLC but, on the other hand, this way it looks lived in. We noticed ...
