it's a complete presevered ancient roman city, and the digging for 150 years to get it out, and they still not done....what's more to say

There is simply no other place on earth like it. It's by far and away my favorite spot in Italy.

Here's whatcha you do:
First off, pack breakfast and a nice lunch. Ya know the standard fare ..... yogurt, fruit, fresh bread, salami, buffala mozzarella, a fresh tomato, olives, wine, and some coka light for the ride there.

Dense and rich, Pompei is a fabulous experience for young and old. It's worth it to get a guide to show you the little details-- the houses, the inscriptions in the stone, where the frescoes are best preserved and what fresco means anyway. (Fresh-- it was painted on fresh plaster/material.)

Leave at least a full day, better two.

Going here and standing in the city will give you shivers. If you are lucky enough to travel here you will see what I mean. It was a great experiance!

We really enjoyed our visit. The thing is, there are really very few places like Pompei where everything that existed almost 2000 years ago is perfectly preserved.

we took a parillo tour which included pompeii in addition to other great cities.i highly recommend this tour not only did you have ample time to look at everything, your guide was readily available for any questions that you might have or, if you wanted to walk alone that was also an option. i chose to go it alone. and, if you happen to find a quite spot in a part of the ruins, you could actually feel pompeii comeback to life. truly amazing.
