  • Matera and Maratea are not the same
    By Patrick C, 02/06/06
Matera is where Mel Gibson filmed "Passion of the Christ", which is well worth the visit. It is found in Basilicata but closer to Bari. Maratea is a beach resort with a Rio de Janeiro like Christ statue overlooking the Tyrrenian Sea. It is also worth the visit but not as much as Matera.
Yahoo Travel should create a seperate page for Matera.

  • One of a kind destination.
    By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/20/05
The unusual setting... This is where the film The Passion of the Christ was filmed. The people are very loving and you can find some real bargains in the shops, also the food in the typical cantina's is delicious. Matera is also famous for it's rustic Italian bread and pastries. The views of the ocean are gorgious.
