Don't Miss Assisi!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/23/08
I work for Explorica.com, an educational travel company, and this summer I had the opportunity to participate in a tour of Italy that included Rome, Assisi, Florence, Pisa, Venice, Milan, and Verona! I really enjoyed all of the cities we visited, but one stood out for its charm, history and landscapes: the small but surprising medieval town of ...
Assisi has what most of Italy has to offer....good food, great people, antiquity, etc. It also happens to fly under the radar of most tourists, which endeared it to my wife and I immediately. It's a nice stop between some of the larger draws. Use your time here to recharge and get ready for the next "push."
Check out some of the local art as well. Norberto lived in nearby Spello. One of my favorites.
It's a great hillside town with a beautiful, large church built for Saint Francis. We had some excellent Gelato there in the Grande Cafe near the main square.

Assisi, an at-home feeling
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/26/06
Of all the cities we visited in Italy, I liked Assisi the most. I could imagine St. Francis strolling through the countryside, his basket of herbs in hand. The story of his life done in Frescos in the Basilica had an impact. This is a place where I would like to live and enjoy the sites and people.

Can't find the words....

This is a town you have to see. The views, the architecture, are to much to describe. We were there a year or two after an earthquake. Some structures still had cranes about them, restoring them to there previous condition. Even with that, it was the best of the towns we visited that week in Italy, and we can't wait to get back.
I last visited with a school group. My friends and I spent a lot of time walking around Assisi as we had chosen not to join the rest of the group at the cathedral. We stopped for lunch at a local restaurant, I wish I could remember the name because the had the best pizza I have ever tasted!
