We toured the castle and went to the dinner (which you eat with your hands like they did back in time), our friend who lived in Ennis ordered the Non-meat dinner and she got a plastic spoon....The history of the castle was very interested and the food was delicious. Narrow stairs to climb and walk down. Went back another day and toured the village to learn more about the historical Ireland...
This castle is still intact and functions as a banquet hall. The village has been set up around to the castle to educate visitors on the lives of the Irish during the times when castles were the centers of settlements. There are shops and food areas in the park. It's a great visit for school groups. Only dislike was the long drive from nearby cities. The Irish countryside is beautiful.

Beware cramped spaces
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/30/06
Bunratty castle is a grand adventure. However, one person in our tour was claustrophobic and there was a elementary school class in the castle at the same time which added to her distress. Beware the cramped and dark spaces.

As far as the value goes, that is really hard to say, we were there on a tour and it was included in the package. But it was the only castle we visited that had atmosphere and extra activites on the grounds. The grounds are excellent. There is more to see at Bunratty castle than the actual castle.
In addition to the show at the castle there is a ...

Lovely
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/07/05
We've been to a number of castles in the UK and Ireland and stayed in a few, as well. Bunratty was a joy and one I would recommend staying a night or two at if you are visting several places in Ireland.
loved the banquet....It was a lot of fun. Took my 23 and 19 year old son and daughter, who enjoyed sampling the Mead and wines. The shops were reasonable and touristy but perfect for us. We did not have much time to spend. If you plan a visit...plan for a day.

WE CANT WAIT TO GO BACK
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/05
I LIKED THE DIFFERENT CULTURES THERE IT IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE, IT IS VERY DIFFERENT. IT'S A GREAT WAY OF SEEING THE WAY OR ANSESTERS LIVED!!!!
Bunratty Castle and Village is a wonderful place to stop on any tour of western Ireland. The castle itself is restored and has a lot of events in it. Just exploring the imposing structure and climbing the spiral staircases gives you a sense of history. The attached village gives you a feel of life as it was several hundred years ago - though ...
Wonderful Friendly people and they go out of the way to make you feel at home.

so much fun!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/13/05
The renovated castle was beautiful - gave a really good idea of what it looked like in its original state. The dinner was so much fun - the entertainment was delightful, and really lent to the atmosphere.
The park was also very nice - village also set in medieval time.
Very appropriate for families - allow a good part of the day to enjoy the castle tour & to explore the village before dinner.
Very highly recommended.
