Ahmedabad is a hiddle jewel of India. It has the history of Delhi, with the energy of Bombay. Very friendly people, extremely safe, even in the middle of the night.

Lot of history, of course from Gandhi, but also from pre-Mughal, to Mughal period - but not easy to find. On the plus side, no crowds at most of the historic sites.
