The only thing that bothered me is the lack of nightlife. But it's a city with many teenagers (i've heard that there are more than 13000 studets in only one of Szeget's Collages) and it's loads of fun. I felt very safe even in the middle of the night. And the locals are very kind with tourists. You don't see that everywhere...
Yeah, Szeged's a pretty city. The Tisza river is nice, and the cathedral in downtown is impressive. The city is also famous for its paprika. The big draw, though, is in summer, when it's always sunny, and there are tons of festivals. Schedule your visit for then.
The nightlife is enjoyable, but it starts later, around 11 so don't expect to go dancing at a good club early. Buses ride until midnight and then only stuart up in the morning, so if you miss the last bus, it's not a pleasant wait...trust me. The city wasn't the cleanest, but I still had a blast.
The city is known for fish soup, paprika, and famous Pick salami. You can go for a tour at Pick salami factory. Tizsa river is right by the center of the city. People swim in the river and sunbath on the beach. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the city and live performances near the Szeged university almost every night. I found Szeged very relaxing atmosphere and ended up going back there again during my 2 2 1/2 weeks in Hungary.
