We spent four days at the Hotel Casa Del Ray and had a magical time. We loved the scenery, rolling hills, fields wreathed in clouds. The people are gentle and generous. The mix of Mayan and Christian culture is curious. The market is colorful, busy and somewhat overwhelming but full of great items at great prices. We'll be returning with more friends.

I've lived in Guatemala off and on for the last 4 years, and the market at Chichicastenango, along with Santo Tomas (the church) are incredible. The market is quite huge, and carries similar crafts and recuerdos as the markets in Guate, Antigua, and Panajachel. It's bustling with both foreigners and locals.

Inexpensive, incredible culture, remote location yet not hard to access. The people of Guatemala are friendly, kind and generous - very welcoming of visitors. A truly remarkable experience.

If you do the Ruta Maya, stay one day in Chichicastenango. The market is very colourful and you can buy cheap souvenirs.
