My husband and I did a two week trip through Germany a couple of years ago - we travelled along the Rhine between Mainz and Cologne, then went to Munich and travelled back to Frankfurt hitting the towns along the Romantic Road. Rothernburg was a highlight for many reasons. First, it is absolutely beautiful, very quaint and quiet in the late ...
I think Rothenburg ob der Tauber is an excellent place to visit. I did not give it a 5 star because everyone gives out 5 stars. I save a 5'er for a place that really stands out. I noticed that the reviews were all done during summer, or at least no mention of the Holiday Season was made. RodT should be visited during the Christmas season. ...

Don't miss the Crime and Punishment Museum. The Nightwatchman Tour is a must. He makes the history of Rothenburg come alive with humor and delight. The local pastry scheeball is really good. Shop keepers and hotel people were very friendly and eager to please. Hope to return some day soon.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber Germany
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/18/06
I lived for the past 2 years in Germany, and my favorite place to visit in all of Deutschland was Rothenburg ob der Tauber. There is no place on earth like it where you can walk 800 year old streets, visit quaint shops, and know what it felt like to live hundreds of years ago in Germany. The people are unbelievably warm and friendly, and cater ...
Rothenburg is a beautiful town. You feel like you have gone back in time. All the buildings are old historical buildings. It is definetely worth a trip.
touristy, yes. but an important place to visit. It still has a standing med-evil wall around the main portion of the town. the drive there is beautiful... and the food and brew= Perfect!
Thanks Germany!

Loved It!

My best friend and I spent the first two nights of our trip in Rothenburg. We couldn't have been happier with the town. We stayed at Gasthof Greifen which has a fabulous location just off the town square. The hotel was very clean, the staff helpful and the breakfasts were wonderful. The town is small enough to walk in a couple of hours but ...
The food was fabulous, the prices were right and the service was warm and welcoming. Although the street-side dining tables have a wonderful view of lovely Rothenburg, we suggest dining downstairs where the owner made us feel like we were dining at his family table. Look for an evening when the crowds are lighter and you will be treated to a very special experience. It was our trip's most memorable evening.
The area is beautiful...the shopping was great. It is headquaters to a famous christmas decor store...think nutcrackers. They offer horsedrawn carriage rides around the town, the med-evil museums were fun. The beautiful churches and houses, that people actually still live in, are too cute!! The only dislike I had, liquor. They put liquor in ...

Years Ago

I visited Rothenburg an der Tauber, Germany on my very first trip to Europe about 15 years ago. I absolutely loved it. I am retired from Law Enforcement in Michigan and found the Criminal Museum fascinating. I loved the shops and would recommend a stop here to anyone traveling to that region of Germany.
