My wife and I traveled for 2 weeks throughout Germany and Austria for our honeymoon almost 20 years ago and Berchtesgaden was by far the highlight of the trip. The views, the food, the people, and the clean air were something everyone should experience. We've traveled thoughout Europe, the Caribbean, and the US and Berchtesgaden still ranks at the top of our favorite places to return.
We visited Berchesgaden and Obersalzburg as our last trip before sadly departing Germany. We survived with a 7 week old infant too. The area is breathtaking. was there while in the US Army and it was a real good leave. Stayed a week.
It was close to all of most scenic areas of Germany, Austria and Switzerland and the Alps. The Gasthof that I stayed at had good food, good beer and good beds. There was nothing to dislike. I was there in October, 1976.
What a wonderful place to have your honeymoon. Just beautiful. The Eagle's nest was breath taking.

Memories of my youth
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/18/05
Waking up to pure pristine air and to the sounds of birds singing is the best memory I have of visiting Berchtesgaden year after year for almost 20 years. This small bavarian secret is just breat taking to say the least. There are many sites to visit and so so many things to do for the old and the young alike. It is a trip that is definately worth while.
