Long before the first winter Olympics was held in 1924 in Chamonix and the most recent Turino Olympics of 2006 were staged, and even longer before the Council of Trent of 1540's was conviened to counter reformation issues, the glaciers of the Alps moved slowly down from their lofty perch to settle in awesome and hushed beauty of the ...

We loved this place
By david m, 01/04/06
My Father, brother, his wife, my wife and myself all went skiing here and enjoyed several of the trails the valley has to offer. The two ladies in our group were novice skiers whereas my Father and Brother and myself are all experienced. To solve that problem, we dropped the girls off the first day with a young French instructor (the girls did ...

I LIKED THE HORSES,SNOW,SHOPS, AND THE RESTAURANTS.
THE SNOW I LIKED MOST. THE AIR IS PURE. THE AREA IS FAR AWAY JUST LIKE SWITZERLAND. THE MOUNTAINS ARE FULL OF SNOW. I ALSO LIKED THE SNOWBOOTS. AT THE TIME I ALSO LIKED MY BOYFRIEND,HUSBAND,STUDENT,AND LITTLE DAUGHTHERS .
GOOD MEMORIES

Beautiful Scenery
By allenjnl, 09/20/05
The mountains around Chamonix are ruggedly beautiful, and you'll need your camera, although you'll struggle to capture the vertical majesty. I agree with another reviewer that this isn't an ideal place for beginners, but experienced skiers will find all the challenges they could ever want. Val Gardena in northern Italy is better for ...

Bizare beauty
By vexedangel44, 06/24/05
The only place in the world I have been that when hiking Mont Blanc there is snow all around but green grass under your feet. Be careful not to step in anything left behind from the huge herd of cows that hangs out up there. Whether on Mont Blanc or any of the other mountains, the views are outstanding, the animals are amazing and the towns people were very friendly. I loved my stay there and would not hesitate to go back.

I'd love to go back.

The only place I've skied in the Alps, the rocky ledges and peaks made a great background. The diverse nationalities made even a lunch break interesting.

too much Chamonix
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 02/06/05
If you plan to go to Chamonix for skiing, be prepared for a couple of things. First, the trails are mostly Blk and Red, not meant for Intermediates or Beginners. Also, there are a lot of Brits there, so you will hear mostly English, not French. And lastly, it is Expensive. A meal anywhere, expect McDees will cost you about 20 Euros easy, and the ...
