While backpacking through Europe, my sister and I happened upon Beaune. We found this city to be rich in quality, charm, and friendly people. Many people here do not speak English, so if you plan to go learning the French basics would be very helpful. The wine tours are great, and going to coffee in the main city square is wonderful. Charming town of wines

A typical small town of Northern France, I would say, hadn't it been that it is also the centre of the world famous Bourgogne wine district. Except for the many wine cellars and excellent restaurants, this well-kept walled town also boasts the magnificent Hotel-Dieu. A very nice and comfortable stay for a day or two!
