i loved the irish bar and the australia bar is a good laugh too at times. the irish bar has live music every thursday and tuesday and attracts a good crowd. the shops are ok, not brilliant and not bad either. the town itself is easily accessed frm avignon-15 minutes by train and Montpellier which is an absolute brilliant town to visit and shop ...
i liked the quaint streets, the roman history all around and the van gogh history i learned while there. the roman bridge with the lions at each end was espcecialy fascinating. i enjoyed its french authenticity and it being a walled city. the people were friendly and helpful. a good time to visit is in the summer. nearby arles is another famous roman bridge to check out. great photography opportunities.
Beautifully, centrally located. Old town very manageable. We have stayed there twice and used it to explore the area. Orange, Aix, Avignon, the Camargue, etc. The Roman arena is magnificent, the antiquities museum one of the best in Europe. You can drive in and out with ease. Plus it is very affordable. Lots of cheap hotels in the old quarter. Has a lovely village feel to it. I Like the Spanish ambience around bullfighting time - it is nearer to Spain than Paris, after all.
Lovely helpful people. You will need to speak some french.
Don't forget siesta time - hours can be tricky.
I now look at van Gogh paintings in a new light -
