Taiyuan is really quite a modern and developed city of China. It is also the capital of the Shanxi province. The food is excellent and you can experience true chinese food at almost any decent restaurant (I had the pleasure of trying Shark's fin soup for the first time at the Seaworld restaurant in Taiyuan).
