That's where you go to see relatives. If you don't have any there don't bother. In case you are visiting historical cities then your best bet is sleeping in Belo Horizonte and driving to Ouro Preto/Mariana early morning.

Belo Horizonte is a truly cultural city and I highly recommend a visit. There is also some nice little minning towns such as Ouro Preto, Diamantina, Serro close by. If you need a hand, I'm more than pleased to help you out!

Belo Horizonte is a big city (almost 2,5 million people), capital of Minas Gerais state and entrance to historic cities as Ouro Preto, Congonhas, Sao João Del Rey or Diamantina. BH (as native say) is perfect for nightlife and unlike others big cities on Brasil have a lot of green areas (parks and squares). And the most important thing: I felt safety there (more than Rio and Sao Paulo). I love it!

A lovely place to visit
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/03/06
Belo Horizonte is nice city. People are very kind, the typical food is great and you can do a lot of nice sightseeings. As the capital city of the state of Minas Gerais, it is the start point to visit a lot of places around: the historic cities (Ouro Preto, Mariana, Sabará, Congonhas, São João Del Rey and Tiradentes). You also can visit the ...
Belo Horizonte has many sights that are easy to miss if you are not familiar with the city. The two neighborhoods you want to focus on are Savassi and Pampulha. Start in the Praca de Liberdade, the most beautiful park in the city. During the summer months, you can sit on a bench and watch young street kids frolicking in the fountains. If you look ...

I have lived in Belo Horizonte for 11 months, and I absolutely LOVE this place! It has everything you want - from natural areas (outside of BH)to the urban setting, it's got it all. Beings I'm quite young, I enjoy the nightlife the most. Savassi is the heart of the nightbird! It has lots of cool places to go to: Flashback (forró), Pop Rock ...

Great Time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/18/06
People are very nice. Stayed at Ibis Hotel right by the Liberty park. Great value and nice location. Not far from Savassi area which has all the bars. Had a rental. Not a very good value but I needed it for business. Traffic is very bad. Many nice sites to see. Food is fantastic. I am planning on going back in few months.
BH is a capital that has much personality, pretty people, (women mainly), with a pleasant climate of mountains of Minas Gerais. Good place to go to a bar to know people and talk with the friends.

Love BH
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/27/06
I lived in BH for about 3 years so I naturally adore the city and the people, and this slidshow is truly horrific! It does not display any of Belo's beauty let alone tourist attractions. It's a must see.
