Placencia was nice and quiet but little culture and nothing to do. Most of the restaurants/shops/inns are owned or run by foreigners, which is good in one way as they are renovated, nice, and well kept, but very "westernized", so not much feel for the country or its culture. Very touristy for a small village, and unless you take a tour ...
Pirates Grill is located on the sidewalk in Placencia Village outside a beach shop called Lost in Paradise. A very small kitchen which you can see everything being cooked in front of you. A small place with a HUGE menu, very cool outdoor seating! They were open for breakfast at 7am, my favorite is the Diablo Eggs in curry sauce, very spicy and ...

Loved it!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/11/08
We stayed at the Garden Cabanas and they were very clean and "cute". We never stayed too long in our cabana as we were out adventuring during the day and up around "town" in the evening. Veronique and her assistant Anna were very pleasant and were very accomodating. It is a village that will probably explode within the next 5-10 years, so visit now while it still has that welcoming feel...

Relaxing paradise
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/10/08
Beautiful beach in exotic paradise with great scuba diving, snokeling, and fishing. Good food, friendly people. Belize City less than a 2 hour flight from Miami and then take a small plane for a 30 minute ride. The whole area is exploding but yet still retains an old time Caribbean feel.
not as hotsy totsy as san pedro, more like caye caulker, very slow and easy. stayed at garden cabanas, great cabanas, wonderful caretakers. has the best beaches in belize.

Awesome even when pregnant
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/13/07
Even when 6 Months pregnant you can enjoy Placencia Village and do the tours offered (April 2007): The Caribbean sea is crystal clear, and warm. The tap water is good to drink. The people are very friendly (all speak in English very well), and kind. Placencia is a laid back village (lot of people are barefoot, but very polite, ethical, helpful and ...

Belize - what to expect in general
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/04/07
We loved Belize. We would stay in Belize anywhere with the exception of Belize City (Not pretty. It is dirty, unsafe, has the most crime in the country, not much to see/do there). The weather is pretty hot (average ~ 80F throughout the year) and humid (like Florida, USA) in Belize (check online before you plan your trip, since hurricane/wet season ...
Doyle Gardiner's Cockscomb tour is a must-see if you are in Belize. Licensed and very professional, Doyle is an excellent guide through the Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary and Jaguar Preserve. He combines sheer fun with knowledge and respect for the environment in a well-rounded tour that is a very unique and unforgettable experience. The tour ...

Not your average American get-away
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/09/06
We spent a week in Placencia during July and loved being in a small community which still has its own personality despite encroaching resort-ism. There are plenty of small restaurants and bars to give dining and entertainment options. Be aware that this is a Belizean community, not a Club Med type place designed for white bread American tastes. ...
Placencia offers everything from cushy resorts to private villa rentals and everything in between. The pace is slow, we lost ALL track of time. We rented a 4x4 from Poncho's at Belize City airport, which was a great deal, then drove the 3.5 hours to Placencia. The drive was scary at first, but once out of the city it was breathtaking views of ...
