I have been to Belize 3 times, and Placencia is definately the best (I should keep it a secret, but I can't help but share my enthusiasm!) The people are very friendly, the beaches are the best in Belize, and there is an excellent party scene Wed-Sun, if you know where to find it (just ask the locals) but it is also very quiet and laid back for ...

great place, placencia
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 03/17/05
Friendly people with most realizing the value of tourism. If you stay, stay on the ocean side and north of the Tipsy Tuna. The southern end of the penninsula gets real hot during the day, mostly due to shallow water and the lack of shade trees, but they are growing back. Any place you stay will be less than 30 seconds the the water. If you stay a ...

Placencia is AWESOME!
By thimbee, 01/09/06
Placencia offers everything from cushy resorts to private villa rentals and everything in between. The pace is slow, we lost ALL track of time. We rented a 4x4 from Poncho's at Belize City airport, which was a great deal, then drove the 3.5 hours to Placencia. The drive was scary at first, but once out of the city it was breathtaking views of ...

Not your average American get-away
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 01/09/06
We spent a week in Placencia during July and loved being in a small community which still has its own personality despite encroaching resort-ism. There are plenty of small restaurants and bars to give dining and entertainment options. Be aware that this is a Belizean community, not a Club Med type place designed for white bread American tastes. ...

Awesome even when pregnant
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 05/13/07
Even when 6 Months pregnant you can enjoy Placencia Village and do the tours offered (April 2007): The Caribbean sea is crystal clear, and warm. The tap water is good to drink. The people are very friendly (all speak in English very well), and kind. Placencia is a laid back village (lot of people are barefoot, but very polite, ethical, helpful and nice). The south part of the village (where all the activity and

Belize - what to expect in general
By A Yahoo! Contributer, 05/04/07
We loved Belize. We would stay in Belize anywhere with the exception of Belize City (Not pretty. It is dirty, unsafe, has the most crime in the country, not much to see/do there). The weather is pretty hot (average ~ 80F throughout the year) and humid (like Florida, USA) in Belize (check online before you plan your trip, since hurricane/wet season ...

laid back

not as hotsy totsy as san pedro, more like caye caulker, very slow and easy. stayed at garden cabanas, great cabanas, wonderful caretakers. has the best beaches in belize.
Beautiful beach in exotic paradise with great scuba diving, snokeling, and fishing. Good food, friendly people. Belize City less than a 2 hour flight from Miami and then take a small plane for a 30 minute ride. The whole area is exploding but yet still retains an old time Caribbean feel.
