Where should I start... the people, yes there are definitely nice and smart people but most behave like villagers who have no conception of service or honesty and attempt to scam you at every corner. They pride themselves on being supposedly clever (since they cannot call themselves crooks) and constantly look to trick visitors. Walking is a ...

Never Again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/12/09
After living and working in Baku for the last 4 years. I can honestly say its the most unfriendly place i have ever been. The streets are filthy and the buildings are horrible. The people are always trying to steal or con money from you. My opinion is if you dont have to go then dont!!!!! This will never be a tourist destination as there is nothing to do or see. Please take my advice and steer clear
I came to Baku, Azerbaijan with an open mind and a positive attitude. Although I love the people, this is not a beautiful city; anyone who tells you that it is, is either lying or hasn't been to too many other cities in our beautiful world. The air pollution is terrible--I haven't smelled clean, fresh air since I've been here. There ...

When I visited Baku, it gave me first an impression of an italian city with a nice architecture and of course the boulevard. But after getting to know Baku better, I really decided that, there is not a single city in Europe that it could be compared. Baku is on the way ...
All of the people travel to Azerbaijan with a very limited expectations, It's not a modern city but beautiful and full of european-persian architecture. One thing that was intereting about the city was that all of the poeple whom we met had a piano at home. The culture is very close to persian and turkish. nice climate, nice ancient monuments and so on.

The cab drivers assume, because you are foreign, they can lie to you about how much a taxi costs. The waiters have NO IDEA what the words "customer ...

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/28/06
Honestly, I'm little bit worried for the first time when I heard that I will be transfered by my company in Jakarta (Indonesia) to Baku (azerbaijan) to work there for 3 years. My concern is because I will bring my familiy together there. Security, school, and people is our primary concern Fortunately, my family had a chance to reconaisance ...
